Highlights from the 3rd LAP Meeting: Analyzing the Water Footprint of Sakarya

18 Jul 2025

Exciting insights from our 3. LAP meeting, took place in 18 July 2025, which featured a compelling presentation on the concept of the water footprint. It was explained as the total volume of fresh water used directly and indirectly to produce a product or service throughout its entire lifecycle.

The presentation broke down the water footprint into its three key components:

💧 Blue Water: The consumption of surface and groundwater.

🌳 Green Water: The rainwater stored in the soil.

🌫️ Grey Water: The amount of fresh water required to assimilate pollutants to meet water quality standards.

A key highlight was a comprehensive study calculating the water footprint of the Sakarya province on a district-by-district basis. This vital research helps us understand precisely where and how much water is being consumed across our city. The findings provide crucial insights for developing targeted, region-specific policies to ensure the sustainable management of our precious water resources in Sakarya.

This discussion was a critical step towards building a more water-secure future.
