January 16, 2026 Location: Sakarya, Türkiye

[Sakarya] – The Strengthening the Local Intervention Capacities for Climate Change in the Black Sea Region (LAP BLACK) project had set to convene its 5th significant meeting on January 16, 2026. Hosted by the Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality at the Hotel Bonvie, this gathering marks a pivotal moment in the region's journey toward climate resilience.

As the Black Sea region faces increasingly Mediterranean-like climate challenges, including heatwaves and changing rainfall patterns, local intervention has never been more critical. This session will focus on two major deliverables of the project:

  • Local Climate Adaptation Plan for Adapazarı: Stakeholders have evaluated the draft plan for Adapazarı. This session aims to refine the strategies that will protect local infrastructure and communities from future climate risks.
  • Sustainable Park Construction: Following the evaluation, the team have reviewed the "Sustainable Park" investment. This park is designed to serve as a "living laboratory," demonstrating nature-based solutions and sustainable urban construction techniques in real-time. The session covered the current status of construction and the process management so far.

The meeting concluded with a forward-looking roadmap, outlining the next stages for the LAP BLACK consortium as they move from planning to implementation.

About LAP BLACK: Co-financed by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme, LAP BLACK brings together partners from Türkiye, Georgia, Greece, Ukraine, and Bulgaria to build institutional capacity and resilience against climate change.
