Anadolu Agency reports LAP BLACK findings on climate risks in Adapazarı

Project coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Ekmekcioğlu said the frequency of extreme rainfall in Adapazarı has increased by around 45 percent since 2000.

The LAP BLACK project, led by Istanbul Technical University under the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme, has been featured in a report by Anadolu Agency. Project coordinator and ITU Disaster Management Institute faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Ekmekcioğlu noted that Adapazarı’s climate vulnerabilities have been assessed across hazards, sectors and local adaptation capacity.

The analysis identified heavy rainfall and floods as the highest risk area for the city, at 29 percent, followed by drought and heatwaves among the priority threats. The report also highlighted the sustainable park designed to demonstrate climate adaptation solutions on the ground.
