Students tried climate technology at the Sustainable Climate Park

22 Oct 2026

On 22 October 2026, students toured the Sustainable Climate Park in Güneşler, made pieces from used materials in STEM workshops, and joined a question-and-answer session with Oğuz Ergen.

The LAP BLACK project (BSB00353), funded by the European Union through the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme, held the first day of its Environment and Cleanup Festival on Thursday 22 October 2026 at the Sustainable Climate Park. Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality built the park in the Güneşler neighbourhood of Adapazarı. The site covers about 5,000 square metres and is one of the first of its kind in Türkiye.

In the first part of the day, students walked the park. A solar charging station, a smart charging unit, an air quality measuring device, a unit that produces water from humidity, recycling bins, a composting machine and a carbon-footprint kiosk were explained on site. The session title was “Nature is our breath. Protecting it is our duty.”

The second part was given to STEM workshops. The science and nature module focused on environment and energy. In groups, students worked on recycling, renewable energy and ecology. The pieces they made from used materials were produced in the park: a picture from coloured bottle caps, and a robot from caps and plastic bottles.

The same day, Oğuz Ergen of the Social Climate Association led an information and question-and-answer session. It covered global climate change, climate processes, land and shore ecosystems, waste management and environmental awareness.

Children carried banners through the day, including “Our park is clean, our future is green”, “Every park is a living place, every piece of waste is a responsibility”, “Care for nature, add value to your park” and “A clean future starts today.”
